#SpaceX: Starship Reaches Orbit and Deploys 26 Starlink V3 Satellites
SpaceX has reached a major milestone with Starship Flight 14, as the massive rocket successfully reached orbit and deployed its first batch of next-generation Starlink V3 satellites.
The mission deployed 26 Starlink V3 satellites, marking the first time Starship has carried operational Starlink payloads into orbit. Each V3 satellite is designed to provide about 1 Tbps of downlink capacity, meaning this launch could add roughly 26 Tbps of capacity to the Starlink network once the satellites complete their on-orbit checks.
Why Starlink V3 is important
The V3 satellites represent a major upgrade over the previous generation. SpaceX says each V3 satellite is designed for around 1 Tbps of downlink capacity and 160 Gbps of uplink capacity, with significantly more beams and higher data-handling capability.
The bigger advantage comes from Starship's payload capacity. SpaceX has said a future Starship mission could carry up to 60 V3 satellites. At roughly 1 Tbps of downlink capacity per satellite, a fully loaded flight could theoretically deploy around 60 Tbps of capacity in one mission.
That would dramatically increase the amount of Starlink capacity SpaceX can put into orbit with each launch compared with Falcon 9 missions using V2 Mini satellites.
Starship changes the economics of Starlink expansion
This is where the Starship milestone becomes important beyond the rocket itself.
SpaceX has been building Starship as a much larger and eventually reusable launch system. If it can achieve a reliable launch cadence, the combination of large payload capacity + V3 satellites could allow Starlink to expand network capacity much faster.
The current Flight 14 mission is still a test flight, and SpaceX plans additional checks before the new satellites begin serving customers. But successfully deploying the first 26 V3 satellites provides an important demonstration of the system.
The bigger picture
Starlink already had approximately 9,600 broadband and mobile satellites in low Earth orbit as of March 31, 2026, according to SpaceX's European prospectus, with about 10.3 million subscribers at that time. SpaceX expects V3 satellites to significantly increase the network's capacity as deployment scales.
So the real story isn't just that Starship reached orbit.
It is that Starship and Starlink are starting to work together as a larger infrastructure system: Starship provides the heavy-lift capacity, while V3 satellites dramatically increase the amount of network capacity that can be deployed per mission.
Bottom Line
The successful deployment of 26 Starlink V3 satellites is an important step for SpaceX. The immediate mission adds a potential 26 Tbps of capacity, while future Starship flights carrying up to 60 V3 satellites could potentially deliver around 60 Tbps per launch.
The next major things to watch are Starship's launch reliability, launch cadence, V3 satellite deployment rate and how quickly the new capacity translates into additional Starlink service.
Note: SpaceX remains a private company, so $SPCX should not be presented as a publicly traded stock ticker.
