U.S. stocks finished lower Monday, September 14, as an AI-driven semiconductor selloff, surging oil and sharply higher Treasury yields pressured risk assets. The S&P 500 fell 0.48% to 7,619.98, Dow lost 0.29% (-152 points) to 52,421.20, Nasdaq Composite declined 0.56% to 26,186.41, and Russell 2000 slipped 0.4%. AI-chip stocks were hit after industry leaders called for greater caution around advanced AI development; Nvidia dropped 3.4% and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index sank 5.9%, while software stocks benefited from a rotation out of AI infrastructure. Bank of America fell 5.1% after CEO Brian Moynihan projected weaker investment-banking fees. Meanwhile, Brent crude settled around $105.68 after nearing $110, and the 10-year Treasury yield briefly crossed 5%, intensifying concerns about inflation and equity valuations.
