For today, Monday, September 14, futures are sharply lower as AI concerns and another oil spike pressure risk appetite: Nasdaq-100 futures are down roughly 1.7%–1.8%, S&P 500 futures about 0.7%–0.8%, and Dow futures around 0.2%–0.3%. A call from prominent AI executives to slow advanced AI development over safety concerns has triggered heavy premarket selling across semiconductors: Nvidia, Intel, AMD and Marvell are under pressure, with several chip names down 5%–7%, while enterprise software and cybersecurity stocks are outperforming. Meanwhile, Brent crude has surged roughly 3.6% above $108 following the shutdown of Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline, adding another inflation headache immediately ahead of the Federal Reserve decision Wednesday. With today's U.S. economic calendar relatively light, the session is likely to be driven primarily by AI/semiconductor selling, oil and Treasury yields, while investors position for Wednesday's expected Fed hike and Powell's guidance on whether additional tightening could follow.
