Wildfire and extreme-heat risk persisted across the US West, with Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and both North and South Dakota under red-flag warnings and fire-weather watches in much of northern and eastern Nevada. Sustained winds up to 25 mph (40 km/h) and gusts up to 45 mph raised fire-spread risk. Heat advisories covered parts of California, Nevada and Arizona: San Francisco issued a heat advisory and Stockton was forecast to reach 98°F (37°C). The NWS said an extreme-heat warning for southern Los Angeles will last one day, with daytime highs near 96°F and a heat index around 108°F (≈42°C). Extreme heat complicated firefighting of a brush fire that produced smoke over I-405 and forced temporary closure of the Getty Center on Wednesday.
